FAQs
DO YOU TAKE WALK-INS?
No, I am currently operating on an appointment-only basis. I will announce on Instagram if I ever plan to host a flash day or walk-in day. I do try to do at least one flash day every few months, some of these are pre-booked and some are walk-in style, so look for my announcements on Instagram.
HOW DO I BOOK AN APPOINTMENT?
All proposals are submitted through the contact form on this site. My books will remain open and I will approve or reject proposals individually. I will occasionally announce via my newsletter when deposit slots are open for approved proposals or I will schedule appointments on an individual basis.
DO YOU ALLOW CHANGES TO CUSTOM PROPOSALS?
Once we have agreed upon a custom proposal idea and you have booked an appointment, you cannot change your idea without my approval. I retain the right to refuse a new custom proposal if it is not something that fits within my interests or if I feel I cannot execute it properly. If you decide to cancel your appointment due this this, you will forfeit your deposit. Please do not book an appointment unless you are committed to your custom idea.
DO YOU SEND CUSTOM DRAWINGS BEFORE THE APPOINTMENT?
I generally do my custom drawings the evening before or morning of the appointment. I have a very busy schedule with anywhere from 20-30 tattoos a month and do not have the ability to work on designs any sooner than this. If you are someone who needs a lot of time to see the design before the appointment or needs a lot of control in the custom process, then I am probably not the best fit for you unfortunately.
DO YOU DO BLACK ONLY TATTOOS?
I almost exclusively do color tattoos and color can be done on any skin tone. The only tattoos I will do without color are my black snake and black vase pieces that incorporate negative space to create patterns. For old photos that are in black and white, I will do varying shades of gray or we can infer colors if desired. If you show up to your appointment and tell me that you only want to do line work and no color, I will do it for you, but you will be charged the full amount of the tattoo with color as I will be counting on that income and cannot afford to lose it without warning.
DO YOU ISSUE REFUNDS FOR DEPOSITS?
Deposits are non-refundable. If you cannot make your scheduled appointment, please give me at least 72 hours notice so I have time to try to fill the spot. You can reschedule your appointment one time and your deposit will be applied to the new appointment date. You must reschedule within 6 months if you would like to use your existing deposit. If you give me less than 72 hours notice then you can still reschedule your appointment but you must pay an additional $100 deposit as I often cannot fill a spot with short notice and end up losing out on crucial income. If you need to move your appointment more than once, even with 72 hours notice, you will need to pay an additional $100 deposit as repeated rescheduling increases my risk of not being able to fill appointment spots and losing needed income. If you cancel your appointment at any point and do not want to reschedule, you will forfeit your deposit.
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY APPOINTMENT?
You must bring an unexpired government-issued photo ID with your date of birth to the appointment. Please do not arrive more than 5 minutes early. You can bring up to one friend to the session but if the shop is particularly full then they may need to stay in the waiting area during your tattoo. Please do not bring minors to the studio. Make sure to eat beforehand and be well-hydrated. If you have issues with low blood sugar make sure to pack some easy, mess-free snacks. I do have candy available during the appointment as well as water and an assortment of teas. Do not come to your appointment under the influence of alcohol or drugs or if you are contagiously ill. Make sure to wear comfortable clothing that allows access to the area being tattooed. Masks are still required in the shop and we have some available if needed.
WHERE IS THE SHOP LOCATED? IS IT WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE?
Daydream Tattoo Studio is located at 2426 NE Broadway St in Portland, OR. There is limited street parking in front of the studio on Broadway but more can be found in the surrounding neighborhood. Our shop is wheelchair accessible.
DO YOU ALLOW SILENT APPOINTMENTS? DO YOU LIKE TO TALK DURING APPOINTMENTS?
Yes! If you prefer a silent appointment just let me know via email or when you arrive. You are free to listen to headphones, read a book, scroll on your phone, or just sit quietly. If you want to talk, that is also great! I love meeting and getting to know so many new people while tattooing. That said, I do want to mention that I am on the Autism spectrum and have some social and communication quirks. Some days, keeping up conversations can be difficult for me if I am feeling overstimulated. If I am being quiet during an appointment please do not take it personally. Also, I often will be more quiet initially while doing the line work, but then start to chat more once I no longer need the stencil and I can loosen my focus a little bit.
ARE YOUR INKS/PRODUCTS VEGAN?
Yes, I use vegan inks and tattoo products that are not tested on animals.
WHAT ARE YOUR RATES? WHEN TRAVELING?
PORTLAND: I take a $100 deposit before booking an appointment that is NOT applied to the cost of the tattoo. This covers both my drawing time and time spent answering emails, scheduling, and running the operations of my business. Deposits are non-refundable. If a custom design takes more than 2 hours to draw, wether due to scale of the project or due to redraws that are not a result of my own errors, then an additional drawing fee of $50 may be added. Flash is generally between $200-$400 plus the $100 deposit and custom work is generally between $300-$450 plus the $100 deposit. The cost of the tattoo day of includes supply costs, set up and break down time, the tattoo procedure, and included free touch-ups for the life of the tattoo. I am willing to work with your budget whenever possible. Sliding scale rates are available for those who self-identify as POC or trans, or are on disability or government assistance.
TRAVEL: When I am traveling, I take a travel fee deposit before booking that includes the total of my travel costs (my airfare, transportation, and accommodations) split evenly amongst each tattoo client. The travel fees vary by trip but tend to be between $150-$200. This travel fee is not applied to the cost of the tattoo. The typical $100 deposit that covers my drawing time and operations time is still included when I travel, but is added onto the price of the tattoo day of. Occasionally, my rates for the cost of the tattoo have to increase slightly if the shop fees and minimums are higher than at my Portland studio. These guidelines ensure that I am not losing money when I travel. While they may cause the cost of the tattoo to be a lot higher than it would be normally, one must consider that the alternative is the client flying to Portland to get tattooed by me and covering 100% of their airfare, transportation, and accommodations costs versus splitting those costs between several clients when I travel to them.
HOW DO YOU ACCEPT PAYMENT?
I prefer cash payments and cannot take credit or debit card payments. Tips are greatly appreciated as a percentage of every tattoo is paid to the shop. The general rule is 20%-30% for tattoo tips.
HOW DO I CARE FOR MY TATTOO?
You can find my aftercare instructions here. It is VERY IMPORTANT to take proper care of your tattoo to ensure that it does not get infected or heal poorly.
WHAT IS YOUR POLICY ON TOUCH UPS?
I want your tattoos to look their best! If any lines fell out or colors healed splotchy, please let me know. Touch ups are free of charge and can be scheduled as soon as 6 weeks after your tattoo. You do not need to wait for my books to open to request a touch up. Please use our existing email thread from your tattoo appointment or email me at shannonwolftattoo@gmail.com and put “Touch Up” in the subject line. Include photos of the healed tattoo so I know how much time we will need for the touch up appointment.
